Whenever you’re getting water from a spring on the trail, you should be treating it. Filters are fast, but they can add pack weight, and usually the filtration system isn’t able to remove viruses from the water. The only way to make sure the water you’re drinking is 100% clean is by disinfecting it, either with tabs, iodine, or UV light.

The Mircopur tabs are simple to use - just drop one tablet in your container for each liter of water, wait 4 hours, and then drink. Some people say they can detect a slight tap-water aftertaste, but it’s a world of improvement over the nastiness that comes with iodine drops, and it’ll take care of all the bacteria and viruses in the water. Hands down, the easiest way to purify water while in the woods.
